Cabot boys come up short in tourney final

Inconsistent play cost the Cabot Panthers in the finals of their Pre-Holiday Tournament, as they fell 50-43 to the Benton Panthers on Monday at Panther Arena.

Cabot led 13-10 after the first quarter, fell behind 26-23 at halftime, then came back to lead 36-33 going into the fourth quarter. The home Panthers fell cold in the fourth though, as Benton’s Josh Bowling caught fire.

Bowling scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth. Meanwhile, Cabot made just one field goal — by Hunter York — and was 5 of 12 from the line in the quarter.

Free throws were a problem all game long for Cabot, as the Panthers were just one of five in the first three quarters.

Adolpho Iglesias stepped up his offensive game and led Cabot with 10 points. Nick Thomas scored eight points, while Michael Smith scored seven.

Hunter York scored six points, as did Jeremiah Penner — both on three-pointers in the third. Garrett Rowe scored five points for Cabot, while Hunter Southerland added a free throw.
