American Legion baseball season under way

The Cabot Centennial Bank American Legion baseball season is under way with three teams.

Senior team

The senior team is coached by Cody Whitworth. That team is off to a slow start this season.

Cabot lost to Texarkana 8-2 on May 24 in a nine-inning game.

Cabot scored single runs in the fourth and seventh innings. It had only one hit.

Scoring were Conner Vocque and Grayson Cole. Kyle Kaufman had Cabot’s only hit.

Bryson Morris got the start on the mound, giving up four earned runs in five innings of work. He struck out three. Kaufmann pitched three innings in relief.

Cabot opened the home portion of its schedule May 27, losing to Bryant 22-6.

Cabot led 4-0 after three innings but only scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Bryant plated 12 runs in the top of the sixth.

Scoring for Cabot were Vocque (twice), Riley Knudsen, Casey Vaughan (twice) and Tristan Bulice.

Cabot had 11 hits in the game. Bulice led Cabot with three hits. Vocque and Knudsen had two hits each. Also getting hits were Vaughan, Cole, Kaufmann, and Morris.

Cabot lost a close one to Conway, 6-5, on May 28.

Conway scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win.

Cabot scored all five of its runs in the top of the fifth. Scoring were Ryan Logan, Knudsen, Vaughan, Morris and Hayden Vinson.

Knudsen struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Cabot then lost to Fort Smith 3-2 on May 29

Cabot scored single runs in the fourth and eighth innings. Scoring were Logan and Morris.

Knudsen struck out four in 3 1/3 innings.

Junior White

The Cabot Junior White team is coached by Chris Gross.

His team beat North Little Rock 5-0 on May 29.

Cabot pitcher Gavin Tillery threw a comlete-game shutout.

He struck out six while allowing seven hits over seven innings.

Cabot scored twice in the first, once in the second and twice in the sixth.

Scoring were Jonathan Latture, Trent Frizzell, Jess Reed, Drake Boroughs and Clay Spafford.

Cabot had eight hits. Adam Hicks led his team with two. Also getting hits were Latture, Chris Odom, Tiller, Tyler Tucker, Frizzell, Reed, Boroughs and Tyler Gilbert.

Cabot beat Conway 11-1 on May 28 at Bear Stadium in Conway.

The highlight of the game was a homer by Latture, who scored two runs.

Cabot led 6-0 after two innings. Conway tied it at 6-6 with six runs in the bottom of the third. Cabot reclaimed the lead with a run in the fourth then four more in the sixth.

Scoring were Latture (twice), Dylan Bowers, Tillery (twice), Tucker, Brandon Jones, Austin Null, Frizzell, Gilbert and Spafford.

Cabot had 12 hits, led by Hicks, Tillery and Tucker with two each.

Junior Red

The Cabot Junior Red team is coached by David Smith. They are 1-4 on the season.

Cabot’s lone win was over the Little Rock Pythons in the North Little Rock Memorial Day Tournament. Cabot won 5-4.

Cabot trailed 3-2 after one inning but tied it at 3-3 with a run in the top of the second. Cabot scored twice in the sixth.

Scoring runs were Braden Jarnagin, Kayde Ridgeway, Ethan Holland, Lino Garcia and Wesley Brown.

Jarnagin led Cabot with three hits. Jarrett Pitchford had the other hit.
