LITTLE ROCK — The widow of Dillard’s Inc. founder William T. Dillard has died.
Alexa Latimer Dillard of Little Rock died Tuesday. She was 96.
She was born Oct. 30, 1916, in Nashville, Ark., and married Dillard in June 1940. The couple built Dillard’s into one of the nation’s largest retailers.
Known for her quick wit, eye for merchandise and devotion to family, Alexa Dillard also loved to travel and fish and was an avid football and basketball fan.
The Dillards helped establish the Chair for Geriatric Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
She is survived by three sons, William T. Dillard II, Dennis A. Dillard and James M. Dillard; two daughters, Drue Corbusier Matheny and Denise Dillard Mahaffy; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
