Weekend sees drug, robbery arrests

Law enforcement officials dealt with a robbery and drug arrests at Cabot over the weekend.

At about 6:40 a.m., Nov. 17, Cabot police officers responded to a report of a robbery at K-mart, 1 Kmart Plaza.

Store employees told officers that a masked male suspect had stolen an undetermined unknown amount of items from inside the closed store.

Officers searched the building but were unable to locate the suspect.

A press release noted that Cabot Police Department detectives are investigating the incident.

On Tuesday, public information officer Sgt. Keith Graham said there has been no new information.

According to a press release from the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office, a search for one person named on a warrant ended with the arrest of three others when drugs were found.

At about 3 p.m., Sheriff John Staley accompanied by investigators went to a Cabot hotel to looking for Deanna Copeland, 21, on an arrest warrant issued by Cabot police for failure to appear.

Copeland was found in the company of Kyle Edward Weeks, 24, for whom the Arkansas Board of Parole had issued an arrest warrant.

After his arrest, Weeks was found in possession of an estimated 1/2 gram of methamphetamine.

While investigators were at the hotel they discovered that Jimmy Andrew Gilley, 25, and Jessica Taylor McElyea, 22, were in possession of an estimated 8 grams of methamphetamine.

McElyea and Gilley were arrested for possession of a controlled substance with the purpose of delivery.

Weeks was arrested for possession of a controlled substance as well as the Board of Parole warrant.

Weeks, Gilley, and McElyea were taken to the Lonoke County Detention Facility. Copeland was issued a summons to appear at Cabot District Court.
