Trying to beat school opening

Workers prepare a block along Lincoln Street for sidewalks. Public works director Brian Buroughs said sidewalks in the city are a continuing project, and it was time to build in this area. There is heavy foot traffic along Lincoln Street during the school year because a large number of students use the street to walk to the high school from the Oak Meadows and Southbridge areas, he said. The focus of the sidewalk improvements is providing safe routes to schools, Buroughs said. (Photo by Ed Galucki)
