The 2013 annual Cabot Christmas Parade, sponsored by Cabot City Beautiful, will be in the afternoon of Dec. 8, organizer Matt Webber announced in a press release. This year’s parade theme is It’s A Dr. Seuss Christmas!
Parade entries should portray an idea or image of a character or message of the Dr. Suess stories by Theodor Seuss Geisel.
“This year’s parade is shaping up to be one of the best ever, including several marching bands, clowns, veterans groups and of course, Santa Claus,” Webber said.
Entries should reflect the parade theme in an acceptable, tasteful manner mindful of the responsibility that goes along with a public presentation, Webber said.
Webber said there is a “Santa Clause” in the parade rules. No entries may feature a live person wearing a Santa Claus suit. “We have a long-term, signed, contract with the jolly old elf,” only one Santa Claus in the parade, and he will be last in the parade, Webber said.
Dr. Teresa Durham, past-president of the Cabot Chamber of Commerce, will be Grand Marshal; parade judges are Cabot School District media-specialists/librarians.
Members of the Parade Committee encourage all area businesses, groups and organizations to be part of the parade, Webber said. Trophies will be awarded in five categories: School/Civic, Church, Business, Animal/Equestrian and General/Personal. A current Coggins is required for all horses; certificates must be verified before any horse may be allowed off a trailer.
Entry forms, parade rules and route maps are available at the Cabot Veterans Park Community Center, Cabot Chamber of Commerce office, and are downloadable at www.cabotparks.com.
Entry deadline is Dec. 2. Completed forms, along with $10 entry fee, should be sent to Cabot Christmas Parade, P.O. Box 1101, Cabot, AR 72023. Entries received after Dec. 2 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The parade route begins at Panther Trail and travels north, about one and a quarter miles, on South Pine Street (Arkansas Highway 89), turning left onto Pond Street to end at Central Elementary School - the same route of the Cabot Homecoming Parade.
Presentation of awards will take place immediately following the parade, at the Plantation Realty parking lot, 907 S. Pine St., behind the judges’ viewing platform.

“We look forward to seeing you at, or in, Cabot’s Christmas Parade,” Webber said.
