Sports teams, youth groups and other organizations pitched in Friday to help at Wade Knox Children’s Advocacy Center at Lonoke for a “husking bee,” cleaning 9,432 ears of corn for the center’s fundraising sale. Board of directors chairman Bo Bevis said the figure is based on 131 bags containing 72 ears. Prepared bags filled the Center’s hallways and offices, waiting to be taken to customers in a drive-through service. By the end of the afternoon it appeared the sale was going be a sell out. Bevis said the Lonoke High School girls volleyball team, the football team and youth groups from Roberson Chapel Baptist Church, Lonoke First United Methodist Church and Brownville Baptist Church volunteered. “It took about three hours,” he said.
