Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an apparent attempted murder near Cabot. A Lonoke County Sheriff’s Department press release noted that Kelley Kelley, 58, of Austin, is being held at the Lonoke County detention facility with no bond.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, at about 5 p.m., Saturday, June 22, North Metro Medical Center at Jacksonville reported treating a man who claimed his wife had tried to kill him.

According to the victim, identified in the report only as the 73-year-old husband of Kelley Kelley, 58, his wife had told him, “I killed the dog and I just killed you, you should go to the hospital.”

Kelley told the hospital staff she had overdosed her husband and killed the dog, a Boston terrier. The dog, she said, had been left in the bath tub.

The husband was treated for an overdose of prescription medication and kept overnight for observation.

Investigator Steve Morgan found the dog in the bath tub at the residence on Arkansas Highway 321 North. Kelley was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of first-degree criminal attempt to commit murder and aggravated cruelty to animals. The dog’s body was sent for examination.
