Cabot School District voters on Tuesday gave Dean Bryan Martin another term to position 5 on the board of directors. “I am looking forward to continuing the work,” Martin said after the vote was announced.
Martin drew 653 votes, 67 percent of the tally, to challenger Mark Raines’ 318, or 33 percent.
Statistics of the election show that 36,954 voters were registered in the district at the time of the election, with 990 casting votes; a turnout of less than 3 percent.
The Cabot School District election was the only one in the county with a contested seat.
Election commission chairman Tim Blair said the school boards of Lonoke, Carlisle and England chose to decline opening polling stations on Election Day. Any votes from those districts were cast at either the Lonoke County Courthouse or the Cabot City Annex during early voting, he said.
