Winds of change hit Cabot with deadly force 37 years ago, March 29, 1976, when the killer tornado swept through the area killing five: 2-year-old Vanessa Kay Story; 10-year-old Sandra Eisenhower; Linda Lee Eisenhower, 38; Jo Lee Logston, 27, all of Cabot, and Robert Maul, 45, of Jacksonville. The tornado demolished the downtown area, forever changing the face of the city. The late Betty Magie, co-founder/publisher of the Cabot Star-Herald, stepped out of the office to snap this picture as the tornado passed by on the way to the downtown area; areas of Austin were also heavily damaged.
