189th Group gets new commander

Command of the 189th Mission Support Group, part of the 189th Airlift Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard at Little Rock Air Force Base, was assumed by Colonel Tamhra L. Hutchins-Frye of Lavaca in a change-of-command ceremony held Jan. 11. Hutchins-Frye succeeded Col. Robert Ator.
The 189th Mission Support Group has more than 400 members who perform duties including logistics, contracting, personnel, services, communications, security, civil engineering and an air terminal in support of the 189th Airlift Wing mission of training C-130 crew members.
Before taking this command, Hutchins-Frye served as the Director of Staff for the Arkansas Air National Guard.
Hutchins-Frye began her Arkansas Air National Guard career at Fort Smith in November 1984 as an Airman First Class. She was commissioned as an officer in August 1989 through the Academy of Military Science, Knoxville, Tenn. She held assignments in the 188th Fighter Wing at Fort Smith; the 189th Airlift Wing at Little Rock Air Force Base; and Arkansas Air National Guard Headquarters at Camp Joseph T. Robinson.
Hutchins-Frye’s recent service includes a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as Chief of Staff for the multi-national North Atlantic Treaty Organization Afghanistan Transformation Task Force at Headquarters International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan.
Prior to deploying, Hutchins-Frye served as the Director of Staff, Headquarters Arkansas Air National Guard, at Camp Robinson, from May 2010 to December 2013.
