A Jacksonville police officer and a man police are identifying as the suspect were injured in an officer-involved shooting Friday morning in northern Pulaski County.

Mark Lyle Dodson, 53, is the suspect and is currently being treated for his injuries at Baptist Hospital-Springhill, said Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Carl Minden.

The name of the Jacksonville Police Department SWAT Team officer who was shot during the incident will not be released until Monday, said Jacksonville Police Department Capt. Kenny Body in the press release. He has been treated and released from the hospital.

“Dodson will be charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder. The exact number of offense counts has not been determined as of this e-mail (3 p.m. Friday). There will be additional charges as well pending further investigation,” Minden said in the press release.

Minden said it was not clear when Dodson would be released from the hospital and booked into the county detention facility.

The incident occurred at 2327 Backbone Road.

Further details about the incident were not immediately available.
