This summer I was determined to open my movie horizons and take on things that looked different and movies that I hadn’t heard anything about. That was why I was so excited when I found my first pick.
And I am also happy to say that I have recently encountered a movie that I am willing to put in my top five. Yes, my top five, and it would only cost you a little over a dollar to experience it for yourself. My redbox pick for this week is ‘Winter’s Tale’.
Directed by Akiva Goldsman this film host an all-star cast with the likes of Colin Farrel, Russell Crowe, Jessica Brown Findlay and Will Smith. ‘This is not a true story. This is true love.’ With that tag line I couldn’t agree more. This movie will make you believe in miracles. I cried and laughed and in the end it left me so happy that I picked this one. I will definitely be watching it again, not only to watch more closely but to also share in the story again.
Farrel does a wonderful job at lighting up the screen, fighting off demons and preforming miracles.
It is one that you need to watch closely from beginning to end so I would say that it would work best if the distractions were limited. With a twisting plot I was happy that I was able to watch this one solo. For anyone that loves, love I recommend this for you. It may not follow the way that you expect or the way that you want but in the end it will show you how true love can capture the human experience that is in all of us. Giving it a 9 out of 10 this would make a perfect date night film.
But a perfect anytime movie would be the one that I just got back from seeing at the Silver Screen here in Cabot. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was so much more then I expected and with one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a long, long time this movie is sure to please!
With Chris Pratt leading this movie I was a little nervous about how the rest of the cast would fall into place. Now don’t get me wrong. I am a huge Pratt fan but I hadn’t seen him take on a role like this and he took it and ran with it making a great impression on my movie experience. This cast was incredible with the likes of Zoe Saldana, Glenn Close and one of my favorites, Benicio Del Toro. Directed and written by James Gunn, this movie was wonderful.
The special effects blew me away along with the amazing costumes created by Alexandra Byrne that brought the story to life. I try to stay away from duel ratings but I am also giving this movie a 9 out of 10. I know that it will please any audience though I will say that the younger children should be cautioned against the fighting and some language used through the film.
And for those that are left with a cliff hanger with the Guardians, don’t lose hope. They will be back though there is not a set release date for the sequel.
Finally with the week coming to a close I found that I was on a very big super hero kick. Pulling the first ‘Spider-man’ out of the movie bin at Walmart I set out to watch it.
I remember watching this movie in the theaters with my dad when it first came out. I also remember how much I loved it then, but now?
Now I found myself rolling my eyes when the serious moments would roll around and as much as I wanted to be fully invested in the film I ended up comparing it to the re-make that hit theaters this past year. As much as I think that originals are the ones that always come out on top I feel as though the first try at the Spider-man movies just didn’t hold up as much as they should have. With too many over played moments I feel like this might be one in my movie collection that will be collecting dust.
For a rainy afternoon it wouldn’t be the worst decision to make but I would be more then willing to give you other options. I am giving this film a 4.8 out of 10. Take this time to take on the revised Spider-man starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
