Roller Derby team heads north
Cabot’s The Breakneck Brawlers of the Girls Rollin’ In The South roller derby team will compete Saturday at Thrills on Wheels in Searcy.
The bout will start at 5 p.m. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m.
Admission is $8 at the door, and the facility is at 3579 Arkansas Highway 367 S. in Searcy. Proceeds will benefit the Wade Knox Children’s Advocacy Center of Lonoke.

Reunion time for Class of ’87
The 25-year reunion of the Cabot High School class of 1987 will be June 23 at Rolling Hills County Club in Cabot.
A time has not yet been set.

Meet the author series continues
North Little Rock’s William F. Laman Library will have its regular Meet the Author series continue on Tuesday with former Sen. David Pryor.
Pryor will discuss his book, “A Pryor Commitment,” beginning at 6 p.m. in the library’s auditorium.
Other authors in the series include: Jane F. Hankins, Dr. David Lipschitz and Mara Leveritt, the library’s current fellow.
Each session is free and will be held at the main library at 2801 Orange St.

Maumelle Library hosts workshops
The Maumelle Library, a branch of the Central Arkansas Library System, is having a summer-long reading club that is free.
Activities will be held Monday through Thursday at the library. The tentative schedule is:
• Ages 9-12: Mondays at 10:30 a.m.
• Ages 6-8: Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.
• Ages 3-5: Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.
• Ages 0-36 months: Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Live at Laman is Thursday
The William F. Laman Library in North Little Rock will host its monthly concert series at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The performer will be The Dizzy 7, and the concert is free. It will be held outside on the library’s plaza, but in case of inclement weather, it will be moved inside.
Other performers in the series are: Amy Garland Band on July 12 and Good Time Ramblers on August 9.

Sculpture show starts Friday
The seventh annual Arkansas Sculpture Invitational Show and Sale will be held Friday through Sunday at the Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St. in North Little Rock.
Join us for a special preview party on that Friday. It will start at 6 p.m., and although there is a cash bar, admission is free.
On Saturday, the show will start at 9 a.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Admission is free all days.

Pool Side Cuties contest is back
The Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department is again hosting the Mr. and Miss Pool Side Cutie Contest on June 23 at Splash Zone.
In case of inclement weather, it will be held at the Jacksonville Community Center.
The contest is for children 1 year to 5 years old.

Healthy Kids Week coming
Panera Bread in North Little Rock will host a Healthy Kids Week on June 25.
The seminar will start at 2 p.m. and will feature firefighters from the North Little Rock Fire Department, who will teach bicycle safety in the “Go Slow Whoa” program.
The seminar is free and children, suggested ages are 10 and under, who attend will receive a goody bag and be entered into a drawing for a free bike helmet.
Adults who bring children will get a free loaf of bread.

Foster Care event on Saturday
The Foster Care Ministry will have an event at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the McAlmont Church of Christ in the McAlmont community near North Little Rock.
The event will be in partnership with the Children’s Home of Paragould and will feature information about that organization and how to adopt children.
