During the first semester, 118 students at Cabot High School signed up for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, a club dedicated to making a difference in the community.
According to CHS teacher Jayme Nyborg, FCCLA is an eventful and helpful club that seeks to lead students in the direction of doing better for the community. The members were involved in various events throughout the semester: volunteering at a diaper drive sponsored by the Arkansas Rice Depot, donating more than 1,700 items to a local food bank, and giving $300 to the Arkansas Food Bank that provided 30 families with 20 pounds of food each.
Member Heather Weth said that her “favorite thing about FCCLA was that they were always doing something to help those in need.”
They also attended the District Leadership meeting in Stuttgart.
Member Rebeka Guttery, said, “My favorite part of the day was listening to the speakers and getting inspired to become an officer.”
Additionally, members competed in the 2013-2014 District Star Events and four teams advanced to State. The students who progressed were Justin Richardson with gold, Lindsey Hart with gold, Caytee Wright with silver, and Rebeka Guttery with silver. These students will compete in state STAR Events Feb. 20 at the Conway Expo Center.
